Bing.com Optimization
Bing is Microsofts new search engine. We all know this by now, but I have noticed something very interesting about the algorithm.
Typically people aren't bashing Bing because it takes no chances, but then again, people aren't excited about it for this very reason. Read on why.
The results of Bing are "clean" because it's Onpage seo HEAVILY intensive. So much so, it mine as well be a directory. If Offpage seo factors such as public opinion (which is what anchor text links are...a vote of sorts) don't weigh in heavily then it's not a true Search Engine.
Chances are you won't be able to tell unless you optimize for a word that only appears once or twice in your title. On Google you can rank for these terms but on Bing you have zero chance. On Google I am on page 2 for a term, but on Bing I an nowhere to be found...the people ranking have keyword stuffed titles/descriptions/tags. Is that really a progressive movement in search where rankings are determined 90% by OnPage factors? I believe this is a step in the opposite direction of collaboration on the internet. Yahoo search is also focused more on Onpage SEO.
Some say it's a good thing because you can't "trick" the system with backlinks but Googles system goes by public votes of anchor text verified by Onpage seo to limit spam. Bing and yahoo go by Onpage seo verified by Offpage seo (backlinks). The two sound similar but are light years apart.
To the non webmaster this isn't an issue of course, but we are all webmasters here. We understand the negative impact having to keyword stuff and buy domains such as keyword-2ndkeyword just to rank for terms.
I suggest optimizing for Google because you don't have to keyword stuff or write unnaturally and can still rank well with proper efforts. Any traffic coming from Bing and Yahoo though is sure to convert as it is extremely targeted to your meta data.
Bing is more of a fluid directory because your rank is determined by what category you assign yourself with Meta data, and offpage links have very little to do with results. They played it safe...created a pseudo search engine where links take a back seat to meta data.
Do you like a Search Engine that focuses on Onpage SEO or OffPage SEO? Should SE's use ONpage SEO only to verify the backlinks obtained through popularity or use Offpage SEO to verify the ONpage SEO? Am I being too harsh on a new search engine?
