Along with the release of its new search engine, Bing, meant to rival Google, Microsoft has also launched a new resource for travel planning - Bing Travel. Microsoft said of this launch: “[Bing Travel] will help consumers make smart travel decisions through a variety of innovative tools and features.”

Microsoft is referring to Bing Travel as its new “Decision Engine”, designed to help travellers find and book flights and accommodations for their trips, quickly and easily. On Bing Travel airfare and hotel tools that Microsoft acquired in its Farecast purchase are combined with MSN Travel editorial content.

A survey conducted by Bing Travel found that 52 per cent of travellers conduct at least three airfare searches before making a booking. It also learned that 42 per cent of travellers weigh their options for one to four weeks before making a decision.

One of the main objectives with Bing Travel is to significantly reduce the amount of time it takes consumers to locate and book flights and trips.

Hugh Crean, the general manager of Bing Travel, said: “Bing Travel has a simple goal: help people make smarter, more informed decisions regarding travel. Travellers face plenty of challenges—from airport security and luggage restrictions to finding their hotel in an unknown city or trying to speak a foreign language. Researching and booking travel should be simple and easy, and now Bing Travel is here to help.”
